Vinícius Marques was a little too slow when Fe De got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 8th minute. The score was now 1-1. 10 minutes into the game, Jailson Berger was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Desportivo Coimbra's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Schalke 04 the free kick. After a rather tough play, Desportivo Coimbra's Jailson Berger got a free kick in the 10th minute. Márcio Martins in the 15thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Vinícius Marques, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. 16 minutes into the match, FC Schalke 04's goal looked a bit too open when Jailson Berger came free, but Lúcio Simões reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Vinícius Marques made a fantastic save in the 32nd minute, when Tiburcio Iago sent off a good shot on target. Lúcio Simões took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rômulo Queirós, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Desportivo Coimbra defense, Tiburcio Iago kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Vinícius Marques. The Desportivo Coimbra fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Vinícius Marques should have stopped the shot. After a rather tough play, Desportivo Coimbra's Arnaldo Eger got a free kick in the 40th minute. Tiburcio Iago sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tiburcio Iago recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.

Fe De struck a weak shot in the 51st minute. Vinícius Marques didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Schalke 04. When Frédson Massa fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Desportivo Coimbra's protests and gave Frédson Massa a yellow card for diving instead. In the 53rd minute, Frédson Massa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lúcio Simões made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rômulo Queirós in the 61st minute. 61 minutes into the match, FC Schalke 04's goal looked a bit too open when Rômulo Queirós came free, but Lúcio Simões reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. FC Schalke 04's Lúcio Simões proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 63rd minute of the match, managed to save FC Schalke 04 from getting a goal against them. Tiburcio Iago ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fe De in the 72nd minute of play forced Desportivo Coimbra's goalkeeper Vinícius Marques to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Desportivo Coimbra's Vladimir Gaúcho got a free kick in the 75th minute. In the 78th minute, Fe De ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Vinícius Marques was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-2. Vinícius Marques showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tiburcio Iago in the 83rd minute of the match. After some careless play in the Desportivo Coimbra defense, Fe De kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Vinícius Marques. The Desportivo Coimbra fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Vinícius Marques should have stopped the shot. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. FC Schalke 04 fully deserved thier win.
