Arthur Bufi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Antônio Aguiar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 9 minutes into the match, Inazuma Japan's goal looked a bit too open when 余永川 came free, but Zé Vieira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Zé Vieira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from 余永川, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Oswaldo Maranhense was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Zé Vieira in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. If 余永川 had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. A collision led to Cruzeiro Esporte Clube getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. The corner led Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Hélder Lara to fire away a dangerous shot which Zé Vieira despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Gwidon Cwojdak made the kick off in the second half. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Gerardo Ibar managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Joaquim Maranhense in the 50 minute of the game. Zé Vieira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from 余永川, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. But to his dismay, Adilson Ramalho quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Inazuma Japan's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
