But to his dismay, Maicon Palmeira quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Vicente Guimarães took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gabi Orange, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cafu Cruz hit a great freekick 9 minutes into the match. 11 minutes into the match, E. C. Uruguaiana's goal looked a bit too open when Gabi Orange came free, but Vicente Guimarães reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. José Alberto Lisperguer thought of kicking away a contribution in front of goal but messed it up so badly that the ball went to the right of an astonished Best Taffarel, a very annoying self made goal in the 44th minute which led to 0-2. Flavius Marinescu charged in rather forcefully in the 47th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Muqui FC's supporters stood up full of expectation in the 49th minute of the game, when Túlio Velasco after an extraordinary solo performance found himself with a golden opportunity in front of E. C. Uruguaiana's goal. Túlio Velasco was unfortunally a little to anxious and the ball went outside the goal. After the first half E. C. Uruguaiana were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gabi Orange stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Maicon Palmeira got free with Best Taffarel in the 55th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 60th minute, E. C. Uruguaiana's Maicon Palmeira dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-3. Best Taffarel stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Maicon Palmeira's shot from short distance in the 65th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Maicon Palmeira in the 65th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Best Taffarel prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 95th minute, Maicon Palmeira made a precise shot to the right of Best Taffarel. Muqui FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-4. The E. C. Uruguaiana supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing E. C. Uruguaiana would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
