The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Riachuelo FC's Arnulfo Abreu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Igor Henric in the 7th minute of play. Erubiel Lugo didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Eleuterio Banegas went, in the 9th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Rene Lauro charged in rather forcefully in the 12th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Rene Lauro the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 12 played minutes Riachuelo FC got a freekick which was hit by Rene Lauro. Arnulfo Abreu stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Igor Henric's shot from short distance in the 17th minute. 19 minutes into the match, Riachuelo FC's goal looked a bit too open when Teo Azubeli came free, but Arnulfo Abreu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marcial Gartzi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 24th minute, Riachuelo FC's Eleuterio Banegas ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Erubiel Lugo. Erubiel Lugo yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. 29 minutes into the game, Sriwijaya Football Club's Lázaro Hustaz nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Arnulfo Abreu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. During the 34th minute of the match Rene Lauro completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Rene Lauro a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. The supporters of Sriwijaya Football Club booed when Riachuelo FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 35 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rene Lauro didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a left leg Arnulfo Abreu saved Riachuelo FC from getting behind. Sriwijaya Football Club's Erubiel Lugo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eleuterio Banegas in the 81st minute of play. Eleuterio Banegas took the ball and in the 82 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Erubiel Lugo. Erubiel Lugo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-4. The audience was convinced that Igor Henric's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Arnulfo Abreu was relentless in the 94th minute of the game. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Fidel Serafo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sriwijaya Football Club's supporters rose to their feet, but Fidel Serafo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Arnulfo Abreu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Sriwijaya Football Club were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
