Eric Beckström hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. Genaro Pello didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from György Lőrinc went, in the 13th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. RIVER PLATE's György Lőrinc got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 23rd match minute, RIVER PLATE was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tata Martino to maneuver through the defense. 28 minutes into the game, RIVER PLATE's Ádám Salamon nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Genaro Pello made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. 32 minutes into the match, György Lőrinc had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Genaro Pello. ARKANTOS SPORTING CLUB's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that György Lőrinc was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-4. RIVER PLATE's Ambrosio Mercurio couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 36th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for ARKANTOS SPORTING CLUB. 38 minutes into the match, ARKANTOS SPORTING CLUB's goal looked a bit too open when Pablo Esquipula came free, but Genaro Pello reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 39 minutes of play, RIVER PLATE's Ádám Salamon made it 0-5 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Genaro Pello was left in no man's land by his defense there! If György Lőrinc had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some careless play in the ARKANTOS SPORTING CLUB defense, Ambrosio Mercurio kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Genaro Pello. The ARKANTOS SPORTING CLUB fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Genaro Pello should have stopped the shot. After a rather tough play, RIVER PLATE's Omar Herensuge got a free kick in the 47th minute. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-6.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ambrosio Mercurio made a kick off. Ambrosio Mercurio's late challenge caught a ARKANTOS SPORTING CLUB's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ambrosio Mercurio helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, RIVER PLATE's Ambrosio Mercurio got a free kick in the 52nd minute. 57 minutes into the match, Ambrosio Mercurio dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Genaro Pello, 0-7. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Pete Quiero during the 61st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Pete Quiero hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Serafino Cordeara in the 66th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Alfred Hultstrand prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Genaro Pello showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ádám Salamon in the 67th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, RIVER PLATE's Mehmet Halis Tetiker got a free kick in the 69th minute. The audience was convinced that Ambrosio Mercurio's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Genaro Pello was relentless in the 71st minute of the game. In the 76th play minute György Lőrinc came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Genaro Pello. 0-9. When Karl-Heinz Rummenigge fell near the penalty area in the 93rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored RIVER PLATE's protests and gave Karl-Heinz Rummenigge a yellow card for diving instead. RIVER PLATE played a much better game than ARKANTOS SPORTING CLUB and deserved their victory. The ARKANTOS SPORTING CLUB players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
