Ioan Atanasiu was left in no man's land by his defense there! The crowd rose to their feet as Ayacucho FC's Tadeu Madureira slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Andres Bertin. That made the score 1-1 after 12 minutes of play. In the 16th minute, Rene Eyague got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ioan Atanasiu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Severiano Chorache, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Serafino Gaitan hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. Ioan Atanasiu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rene Eyague, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Severiano Chorache to strike the kick off in the second half. When Hernan Mendez fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. Ayacucho FC's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
