The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to River Plate getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. In the 17th minute, Inde Beltran's Amado Sol dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. Roberto Cisco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mario Chesus having to interfere. Ovidio Aznar hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. In the 30th minute, Walther Gyllembourg left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The River Plate fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. After having played for 38 minutes, Roberto Cisco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Inde Beltran's supporters crossed their fingers, but Roberto Cisco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Roberto Cisco struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Mario Chesus didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Inde Beltran. If Walther Gyllembourg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Roberto Cisco could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 47th minute of the match, but Mario Chesus made a huge save. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

Inde Beltran's defense didn't have a chance, in the 55th minute, when Walther Gyllembourg scored to the left of an out of position Higinio Abecia, making the score, 1-3. Higinio Abecia showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eusebio Geofredo, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. In the 68th minute Eusebio Geofredo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Higinio Abecia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 69th minute Roberto Cisco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mario Chesus saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jan-Aage Bertelsen blasted a shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Mario Chesus having to make a save. After a defensive mix-up in River Plate's zone, Roberto Cisco stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mario Chesus came out of the goal and Roberto Cisco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 74th minute, Roberto Cisco made a precise shot to the right of Mario Chesus. River Plate's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-3. 77 minutes into the game, Walther Gyllembourg cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-4. Higinio Abecia was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 80th minute, Walther Gyllembourg ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Higinio Abecia was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-5. Mario Chesus showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roberto Cisco, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. In the 86thth minute of the game Roberto Cisco who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but River Plate's Mario Chesus was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 90 minutes into the match, River Plate's goal looked a bit too open when Roberto Cisco came free, but Mario Chesus reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
