The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Club Atletico Los Andes's Gabriel Terciero played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Severino Lluterio in the 14th minute of play. After 17 played minutes Club Atletico Los Andes got a freekick which was hit by Eduardo Tono. Benigno Normando hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. Pincha Campeon FC's Hugo Mendez proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 21st minute of the match, managed to save Pincha Campeon FC from getting a goal against them. Club Atletico Los Andes's Silverio Hernandez quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Benedicto Quinto, made in the 24th minute of the game. 25 minutes into the match, Pincha Campeon FC's goalkeeper Hugo Mendez had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Evert Hydén. When the match had gone on for 31 minutes, Severino Lluterio put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Gabriel Terciero. Gabriel Terciero showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edelmiro Haitz in the 37th minute of the match. Gabriel Terciero made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ramon Hernando in the 42nd minute of play. 45 minutes into the match, Club Atletico Los Andes's goal looked a bit too open when Edelmiro Haitz came free, but Gabriel Terciero reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hugo Mendez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jorge Furtado in the 46th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

In the 63rd minute, Edelmiro Haitz fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Gabriel Terciero, passed just outside the right post. In the 67th minute Jorge Furtado shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hugo Mendez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Severino Lluterio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gabriel Terciero having to interfere. With his leg Gabriel Terciero managed to avoid a goal in the 78thth minute, when Pincha Campeon FC's Edelmiro Haitz fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Silverio Hernandez's late challenge caught a Pincha Campeon FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Silverio Hernandez helped the player get up and apologised. After 79 played minutes Club Atletico Los Andes got a freekick which was hit by Silverio Hernandez. 82 minutes into the game, Benedicto Quinto threw the ball into play from the sideline. Club Atletico Los Andes's Silverio Hernandez quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. After a defensive mix-up in Pincha Campeon FC's zone, Silverio Hernandez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hugo Mendez came out of the goal and Silverio Hernandez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Edelmiro Haitz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Gabriel Terciero tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
