After 17 minutes, Ubaldo Jurgi mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Durbin Watson and the Independiente F.C players grew even worse after the yellow card. Durbin Watson's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Independiente F.C the free kick. In the 22nd minute of the match Fidel Lizardi shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Abraham Fonts showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When Damaso Pagomari fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Durbin Watson's protests and gave Damaso Pagomari a yellow card for diving instead. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 23rd minute of the game. One of Durbin Watson:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Independiente F.C:s goal. Abraham Fonts showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Timoteo Chico in the 28th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dario Weterio in the 43rd minute of play forced Independiente F.C's goalkeeper Arnaldo Derwin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Arnaldo Derwin was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Dario Weterio showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-2 in the 45 minute of play. After the first half Independiente F.C were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Timoteo Chico stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Arnaldo Derwin breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Bernabe Mercurio kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match.
