The tension between the Velez Sarsfield FC and the Nairobi City AFC players grew even worse after the yellow card. 56 minutes into the match, Christian Victoro notched a goal, 0-3, to the right of Velez Sarsfield FC's Mateo Confesor. Nestor Lleir's late challenge caught a Velez Sarsfield FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nestor Lleir helped the player get up and apologised. In the 82nd minute, one of Nairobi City AFC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Nairobi City AFC. 85 minutes into the match, Orlando Rosalio had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Hilario Gumaro. After 88 played minutes Nairobi City AFC got a freekick which was hit by Nestor Lleir. After a defensive mix-up in Nairobi City AFC's zone, Elpidio Elodio stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hilario Gumaro came out of the goal and Elpidio Elodio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Simon Quico fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hilario Gumaro having to interfere. 97 minutes into the match, Velez Sarsfield FC's goal looked a bit too open when Albino Quinteros came free, but Mateo Confesor reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Nairobi City AFC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Nairobi City AFC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
