Varela AFC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Anastasio Gaitan was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Anastasio Gaitan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leonides Ipar having to interfere. In the 25th minute the ball was on its way in behind Varela AFC's goalkeeper Leonides Ipar, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When Anastasio Gaitan came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the Club Atl. Independiente fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Anastasio Gaitan couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, Varela AFC's Efrain Crispo got a free kick in the 31st minute. Eleuterio Azeari recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 32nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 33 minutes into the game, Club Atl. Independiente's Anastasio Gaitan nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Leonides Ipar made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. 37 minutes into the match, Varela AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Anastasio Gaitan came free, but Leonides Ipar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Laureano Olivar fell near the penalty area in the 38th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Varela AFC's protests and gave Laureano Olivar a yellow card for diving instead. After 39 played minutes Varela AFC got a freekick which was hit by Laureano Olivar. Leonides Ipar showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anastasio Gaitan in the 40th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Rodrigo Kaiet's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Leonides Ipar was relentless in the 41st minute of the game. Leonides Ipar breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 67th minute, Aquiles Tancredo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 69th minute, Eleuterio Azeari managed to get in a good position for a shot. Club Atl. Independiente's supporters rose to their feet, but Eleuterio Azeari was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Varela AFC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Club Atl. Independiente the free kick. Club Atl. Independiente played a much better game than Varela AFC and deserved their victory. The Varela AFC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
