Delmar Medardo charged in rather forcefully in the 6th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Delmar Medardo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Newells Old Boys getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Delmar Medardo hit a great ball. Humberto Tonete took the ball and in the 15 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Alberto Sendoa. Alberto Sendoa dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Hélio Massa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 22nd minute, Humberto Tonete hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Siro Chabier stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Hélio Massa's shot from short distance in the 23rd minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Hélio Massa in the 27th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Siro Chabier prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 31stth minute of the game Hélio Massa who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Cojango's Siro Chabier was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Roberto Etxatxu hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. In the 37th match minute, Cojango was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Matias Rey to maneuver through the defense. When David Zotincă came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the Newells Old Boys fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that David Zotincă couldn't finish the play. If Hélio Massa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The crowd rose to their feet as Newells Old Boys's Hélio Massa slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Siro Chabier. That made the score 1-1 after 47 minutes of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Humberto Tonete stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Hélio Massa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carolo Ofelio in the 56th minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Alberto Sendoa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Roberto Etxatxu in the 61st minute of play forced Cojango's goalkeeper Siro Chabier to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hélio Massa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Siro Chabier tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 66 minutes into the match, Cojango's goal looked a bit too open when Hélio Massa came free, but Siro Chabier reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Matias Rey hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. 75 minutes into the game, Venancio Inautzi threw the ball into play from the sideline. Newells Old Boys's Delmar Medardo quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Thanks to some nice moves Godofredo Tano could shoot a difficult shot in the 78th minute, which Alberto Sendoa however easily saved by the left post. Cojango's Godofredo Tano got a good chance for a goal in the 79th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Roberto Etxatxu hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. When Newells Old Boys's Hélio Massa in the 85th minute got a chance for a shot 85th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Cojango's goalie prevented a goal. Siro Chabier showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Delmar Medardo in the 86th minute of the match. 88 minutes into the match, Newells Old Boys's goal looked a bit too open when Humberto Tonete came free, but Alberto Sendoa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marciano Eleder received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Alberto Sendoa came out and tried to block the shot, but Marciano Eleder slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 94th minute. Godofredo Tano scored 1-3 in the 98th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Alberto Sendoa, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When the final whistle went the supporters of Cojango were delighted that their team had defeated the much more dominant Newells Old Boys side.
