An unexpected shot in the 21st minute by Domingo Montel got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Belgrano was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Teofilo Elija didn't get a good kick on the ball. 38 minutes into the game, Dênis Braga cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Joel Sasoin was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. With his leg Benito Charro managed to avoid a goal in the 43rdth minute, when Venezuela's Bonifacio Cutberto fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

The wind increased when Teofilo Elija made the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute Bonifacio Cutberto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Charro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Benito Charro stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bonifacio Cutberto's shot from short distance in the 58th minute. Benito Charro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rodolfo Gonsalve in the 67th minute of the match. In the 69th minute of the match Venezuela got a corner. Belgrano's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Jacobo Paskal ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Jacobo Paskal almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Belgrano's Benito Charro did a great save. When Urbano Artizar fell near the penalty area in the 73rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Belgrano's protests and gave Urbano Artizar a yellow card for diving instead. In the 73rd minute, Urbano Artizar hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 77th minute Domingo Montel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Charro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Benito Charro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rodolfo Gonsalve, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 90 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Zacarias Oidor. The long shot by Diego Munio in the 91st minute really tested Joel Sasoin's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Rodolfo Gonsalve received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Benito Charro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Belgrano were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Venezuela to leave the ground with a draw.
