The audience thought a goal was coming when Silverio Abadie got free with Alberto Di Matteo in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Claudio Precioso fell near the penalty area in the 10th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Athletic C. BILBAO's protests and gave Claudio Precioso a yellow card for diving instead. After 11 played minutes Athletic C. BILBAO got a freekick which was hit by Claudio Precioso. In the 19th minute Delmar Guilabertus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alberto Di Matteo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 20th minute, Tobias Abeijon hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. El Eje del Norte's supporters rose to their feet, but Ciro Lucado was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ermegildo Gustau breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ciro Lucado kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. If Guido Naldo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Guido Naldo to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute Ciro Lucado shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ermegildo Gustau saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 65th minute, Ciro Lucado got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Federico Rojelio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With 69 minutes on the clock, Iker Nahia commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. Norberto Reyes walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. In the 87th match minute, Athletic C. BILBAO was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Israel Perrando to maneuver through the defense. Ermegildo Gustau made an important save on a dangerous shot by Guido Naldo in the 88th minute. Ciro Lucado received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Ermegildo Gustau tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Guido Naldo came up free with the goalie in the 97th minute, the El Eje del Norte fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Guido Naldo couldn't finish the play.
