Enrique Madaleno showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roberto Heli, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. In the 11th match minute, Walt was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Teodoro Firmin to maneuver through the defense. Diego Martinelli charged in rather forcefully in the 15th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Diego Martinelli the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Club San Martin de Salta booed when Walt was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Diego Martinelli didn't get a good kick on the ball. Valdir Correia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Godofredo Benino having to interfere. After 42 played minutes Walt got a freekick which was hit by Valdir Correia. Valdir Correia's late challenge caught a Club San Martin de Salta's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Valdir Correia helped the player get up and apologised. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Roberto Heli to make the kick off. During the 53rd minute of the match Bruno Txomin completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Bruno Txomin a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Enrique Madaleno was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After some careless play in the Walt defense, Roberto Heli kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Enrique Madaleno. The Walt fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Enrique Madaleno should have stopped the shot. 74 minutes into the game, Omar Baleren was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Club San Martin de Salta's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Walt the free kick. The supporters of Walt booed when Club San Martin de Salta was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Omar Baleren didn't get a good kick on the ball. Godofredo Benino was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 75th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Roman Ihazintu. After a rather tough play, Club San Martin de Salta's Angelino Ritchie got a free kick in the 77th minute. Valdir Correia's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Godofredo Benino read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 79th minute of play. In the 84th minute, Teodoro Firmin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 85 minutes, Armando Guillelmo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Club San Martin de Salta and the Walt players grew even worse after the yellow card. Andres Iraitz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal.
