After having played for 18 minutes, Evelio Ricart managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Newells Old Boys's supporters crossed their fingers, but Evelio Ricart was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 45th minute the ball was on its way in behind Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Florian Bialakowski, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

In the 75th minute of the match Omar Romero shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Everardo Filipo showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
