In the 15th minute, Osvaldo Suarez hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 16th minute, Rodrigo Emeterio got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Superjunkies's Jairo Banegas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcelino Izotz in the 18th minute of play. Rodrigo Emeterio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joni Korhonen having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Rodrigo Emeterio kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Joni Korhonen. That made the score 2-0 in the 23 minute of play. Emilio Erruki blasted a shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jairo Banegas having to make a save. After a defensive mix-up in Club Atletico River Plate's zone, Rodrigo Emeterio stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Joni Korhonen came out of the goal and Rodrigo Emeterio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Victor Menendo who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 34thth minute tested the skills of Joni Korhonen when he managed to save the team from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rodrigo Emeterio in the 36th minute of play forced Club Atletico River Plate's goalkeeper Joni Korhonen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 37th match minute, Club Atletico River Plate was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Orlando Iliana to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 40 minutes, Rodrigo Emeterio managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Superjunkies's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rodrigo Emeterio was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 46th minute, Silvestre Orzaize sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Club Atletico River Plate's Joni Korhonen didn't even have to move. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rodrigo Emeterio stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Club Atletico River Plate's Ramiro Paez pulled a muscle in his back after 80 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Remigio Gora's late challenge caught a Club Atletico River Plate's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
