East Tokyo United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bonifacio Maidana was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Jean Duflos kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. 8 minutes into the match, Diabolicos de Avellaneda's Froilan Paz sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Isidoro Flores narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Rodolfo Firmo was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 9 minutes into the match. Rodolfo Firmo hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. Olexiy Taranenko came out of the goal in the 11th minute to try and stop a shot by East Tokyo United's Bonifacio Maidana. But to his dismay, Bonifacio Maidana quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. After having played for 14 minutes, Osvaldo Elazar managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Diabolicos de Avellaneda's supporters crossed their fingers, but Osvaldo Elazar was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Tadeo Teodor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Diego Milito recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 27th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When the match clock showed 31 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Tadeo Teodor sped through East Tokyo United's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Isidoro Flores. Tadeo Teodor struck a weak shot in the 44th minute. Isidoro Flores didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Diabolicos de Avellaneda. Jaime Cerilo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Tadeo Teodor made the kick off in the second half. When Carlos Menem fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored East Tokyo United's protests and gave Carlos Menem a yellow card for diving instead. After 52 played minutes East Tokyo United got a freekick which was hit by Carlos Menem. Hilario Roldan's late challenge caught a Diabolicos de Avellaneda's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Hilario Roldan helped the player get up and apologised. In the 60th minute, one of East Tokyo United:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for East Tokyo United. Honorio Gonsalvo shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Diego Milito received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Olexiy Taranenko tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tadeo Teodor struck a weak shot in the 81st minute. Isidoro Flores didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Diabolicos de Avellaneda. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Domingos Phelipe in the 87th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Olexiy Taranenko prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Lisandro Mendez came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the East Tokyo United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lisandro Mendez couldn't finish the play. 91 minutes into the match, Lisandro Mendez had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Olexiy Taranenko. Diabolicos de Avellaneda's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Lisandro Mendez was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. After 96 minutes, Artemio Frasco mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the East Tokyo United and the Diabolicos de Avellaneda players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to East Tokyo United getting a freekick after 97 minutes play. Artemio Frasco hit a great ball. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Diabolicos de Avellaneda players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
