The referee ignored Club Atletico Progreso's protests and gave Candido Hibai a yellow card for diving instead. Patrick Engström showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jaime Ibañez, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. In the 16th minute Justo Pagomari shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Patrick Engström saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Argentinos Juniors's Patrick Engström got control of the ball when Candido Hibai tried to sneak it across the goal line. Isidro Medero took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Simon Gustau, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 27 minutes, Jacobo Indartsu managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Argentinos Juniors's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jacobo Indartsu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Simon Gustau had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jacobo Indartsu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Isidro Medero having to interfere. Argentinos Juniors's Patrick Engström played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Juan Riquelme in the 33rd minute of play. The supporters of Club Atletico Progreso booed when Argentinos Juniors was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Victoriano Chus didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 42nd minute Justo Pagomari shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Patrick Engström saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Patrick Engström tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 68th minute, Juan Riquelme ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Patrick Engström was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-0. Patrick Engström showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Honorato Montel in the 71st minute of the match. Jaime Ibañez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Patrick Engström having to interfere. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Club Atletico Progreso had played much better football throughout.
