Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The supporters of RIVER PLATE booed when INDEPENDIENTE was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcos Izotz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Candido Etxatxu didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Silvio Lazcano went, in the 17th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. If Silvio Lazcano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 21 minutes into the game, Marcos Izotz was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. INDEPENDIENTE's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave RIVER PLATE the free kick. After 21 played minutes INDEPENDIENTE got a freekick which was hit by Marcos Izotz. Silvio Lazcano struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Candido Etxatxu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for RIVER PLATE. Arturo Lluques sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in INDEPENDIENTE's zone, Silvio Lazcano stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Candido Etxatxu came out of the goal and Silvio Lazcano tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 36 minutes into the match, RIVER PLATE's goal looked a bit too open when Arturo Lluques came free, but Pablo Anaya reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Rodolfo Justin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet as INDEPENDIENTE's Arturo Lluques slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Pablo Anaya. That made the score 1-1 after 42 minutes of play.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Eustacio Caitano to make the kick off. Alberto Asier kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. Silvio Lazcano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Arturo Lluques blasted a shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Pablo Anaya having to make a save. If Arturo Lluques had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Oscar Lapurdi hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. In the 78th minute, Alberto Asier hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 82nd minute, Rodolfo Justin made a precise shot to the right of Pablo Anaya. RIVER PLATE's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-1. Arturo Lluques took the ball and in the 86 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Pablo Anaya. Pablo Anaya dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-1. Ernesto Edorta kicked well hit freekick during the 91st minute of the match. INDEPENDIENTE's Arturo Lluques got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
