After 10 minutes, Freddy Elazar mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Steaua Ta Fria and the Atlético Leleyuyo players grew even worse after the yellow card. When Edgard Bernard fell near the penalty area in the 33rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Atlético Leleyuyo's protests and gave Edgard Bernard a yellow card for diving instead. Domingos Feliz's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Teofilo James read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 43rd minute of play. After the first half Atlético Leleyuyo were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nestor Reynardo to make the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Isidoro Emeterio got free with Teofilo James in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
