The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Lino Nuñez took the ball and in the 3 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Marcos Gai. Marcos Gai dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Marcial Playo struck a weak shot in the 12th minute. Americo Ticho didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Depor Pereira FC. Americo Ticho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcial Playo, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. Marcos Gai made a fantastic save in the 20th minute, when Lino Nuñez sent off a good shot on target. If Ivan Mergildo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 28 minutes into the match, Depor Pereira FC's goalkeeper Marcos Gai had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lino Nuñez. Marcos Gai showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ivan Mergildo in the 30th minute of the match. Marcos Gai took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ivan Mergildo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lino Nuñez received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Marcos Gai tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Silvano Gizon hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. Marcos Gai showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ivan Mergildo, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Casimiro Ubarna charged in rather forcefully in the 41st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Casimiro Ubarna the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. When Lino Nuñez came up free with the goalie in the 48th minute, the Ciénega fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lino Nuñez couldn't finish the play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Marcial Playo to make the kick off. The supporters of Depor Pereira FC booed when Ciénega was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leonel Bastia didn't get a good kick on the ball. The attack was good, but when Lorenzo Elizardo in the 55th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Ivan Mergildo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcos Gai having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 60th minute, Lino Nuñez managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ciénega's supporters rose to their feet, but Lino Nuñez was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marcos Gai breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Lino Nuñez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcos Gai having to interfere. Marcos Gai took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ivan Mergildo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Aurelio Belmiro during the 70th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Ivan Mergildo might have been able to make a better finish in the 73rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marcos Gai. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ivan Mergildo ran back to his position shaking his head. Lino Nuñez recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 75th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ivan Mergildo in the 77th minute of play forced Depor Pereira FC's goalkeeper Marcos Gai to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Americo Ticho made a fantastic save in the 83rd minute, when Lorenzo Elizardo sent off a good shot on target. Ivan Mergildo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 86 minutes, Aurelio Belmiro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ciénega's supporters crossed their fingers, but Aurelio Belmiro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Lorenzo Elizardo struck a weak shot in the 92nd minute. Americo Ticho didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Depor Pereira FC. There was no doubt that Ciénega were the better team. Ciénega's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
