Raimundo Pello made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Humberto Gonzales in the 13th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Carmen's zone, Maximiliano Frechoso stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Raimundo Pello came out of the goal and Maximiliano Frechoso tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Maximiliano Frechoso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 22 played minutes Atletico Pichincha got a freekick which was hit by Severiano Librado. The audience thought a goal was coming when Roman Orixe got free with Martin Cordeal in the 24th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Roman Orixe fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Martin Cordeal having to interfere. When Feliberto Ebardo came up free with the goalie in the 29th minute, the Carmen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Feliberto Ebardo couldn't finish the play. In the 31st match minute, Atletico Pichincha was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Humberto Gonzales to maneuver through the defense. In the 36th minute, Eustacio Ortzi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Roman Orixe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Roman Orixe came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the Carmen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Roman Orixe couldn't finish the play. The audience was convinced that Feliberto Ebardo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Martin Cordeal was relentless in the 43rd minute of the game. Blas Restu kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. After 48 minutes, Arnulfo Belarmo made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. Carmen's Raimundo Pello tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Feliberto Ebardo to strike the kick off in the second half. When Atletico Pichincha's Maximiliano Frechoso in the 54th minute got a chance for a shot 54th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Arnulfo Belarmo ran back to his position shaking his head. Maximiliano Frechoso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. Raimundo Pello tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Arnulfo Belarmo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Carmen's Raimundo Pello got control of the ball when Arnulfo Belarmo tried to sneak it across the goal line. Maximiliano Frechoso received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Raimundo Pello came out and tried to block the shot, but Maximiliano Frechoso slotted it home off the left post making it 0-2 in the 92nd minute. Carmen's Raimundo Pello proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 98th minute of the match, managed to save Carmen from getting a goal against them. If Eustacio Ortzi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 100th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Atletico Pichincha eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
