The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Honorio Harkaitz kicked well hit freekick during the 4th minute of the match. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Omar Batistuta might have been able to make a better finish in the 16th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Bernabe Jokin. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Omar Batistuta ran back to his position shaking his head. A collision led to Calchaqui getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Artemio Elivareo hit a great ball. In the 22ndth minute of the game Gabriel Ferman who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Calchaqui's Dante Koldo was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience was convinced that Omar Batistuta's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Bernabe Jokin was relentless in the 25th minute of the game. Bernabe Jokin came out of the goal in the 35th minute to try and stop a shot by Calchaqui's Cristo Bikendi. But to his dismay, Cristo Bikendi quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. 40 minutes into the game, Omar Batistuta cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Bernabe Jokin was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 45 played minutes Calchaqui got a freekick which was hit by Honorio Harkaitz. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Omar Batistuta made the kick off in the second half. 54 minutes into the match, Calchaqui's goal looked a bit too open when Octavio Urti came free, but Dante Koldo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
