The audience thought a goal was coming when Nicasio Clementi got free with Esteve Tiadoro in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Raul Dolcet fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jorge Gonzo having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Almagro's zone, Fabricio Quinteros stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jorge Gonzo came out of the goal and Fabricio Quinteros tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nicasio Clementi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Esteve Tiadoro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba's Arnaldo Urtsua got a free kick in the 42nd minute. After some careless play in the Almagro defense, Raul Dolcet kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jorge Gonzo. The Almagro fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jorge Gonzo should have stopped the shot. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Emanuel Justin to strike the kick off in the second half. Fabricio Quinteros's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jorge Gonzo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 55th minute of play. In the 59th minute, Raul Dolcet left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
