Delamorta's defense didn't have a chance, in the 10th minute, when Apolo Frutos scored to the left of an out of position Leo Emenon, making the score, 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Apolo Frutos in the 14th minute of play forced Delamorta's goalkeeper Leo Emenon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 18th minute, Saprissa's Apolo Frutos ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Leo Emenon. Leo Emenon yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. Jacinto Panfilo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edgardo Balasi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Bernardino Belarmo took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 24th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Jacinto Panfilo. Saprissa's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Through an outstanding action, after 25 minutes, Leo Emenon successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Pedro Mikelar recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 31st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 32 played minutes Delamorta got a freekick which was hit by Lino Eliazar. Pedro Mikelar in the 36thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Leo Emenon, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. With an all-out effort, Saprissa's Leo Emenon threw himself towards the right post 38 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Apolo Frutos, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Apolo Frutos to make the kick off. In the 64th minute, Aquiles Froylan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Apolo Frutos came up free with the goalie in the 66th minute, the Saprissa fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Apolo Frutos couldn't finish the play. Apolo Frutos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 84th minute Apolo Frutos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leo Emenon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Saprissa's zone, Feliberto Hernandez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jacinto Panfilo came out of the goal and Feliberto Hernandez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Leo Emenon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pedro Mikelar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 92 minutes into the match, Saprissa's Pedro Mikelar sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Leo Emenon narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
