Ruben Baristo was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. A collision led to Saprissa getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Eriberto Sancho hit a great ball. When Pedro Mikelar came up free with the goalie in the 12th minute, the Saprissa fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Pedro Mikelar couldn't finish the play. Ruben Baristo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Apolo Frutos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Saprissa's Jacinto Panfilo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 18th minute of the match, managed to save Saprissa from getting a goal against them. Apolo Frutos's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ruben Baristo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 21st minute of play. Apolo Frutos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jacinto Panfilo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hipolito Goizeder in the 29th minute of the match. Luciano Jakes charged in rather forcefully in the 31st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Luciano Jakes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 33rd minute, Los Santos City's Jonas Eron dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1. A collision led to Saprissa getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Elvio Pacho hit a great ball. Hipolito Goizeder's late challenge caught a Saprissa's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Hipolito Goizeder helped the player get up and apologised. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Jacinto Panfilo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hipolito Goizeder, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. Pedro Mikelar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ruben Baristo having to interfere. Jonas Eron fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacinto Panfilo having to interfere. Jonas Eron received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Jacinto Panfilo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Apolo Frutos recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 73rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 75 minutes, Pedro Mikelar managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Saprissa's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pedro Mikelar was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Apolo Frutos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ruben Baristo having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 85th minute, Jonas Eron managed to get in a good position for a shot. Los Santos City's supporters rose to their feet, but Jonas Eron was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jacinto Panfilo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 86 played minutes Saprissa got a freekick which was hit by Bernardo Ihazintu. Jacinto Panfilo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hipolito Goizeder, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. Angelino Mero hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match.
