When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Apolo Frutos made a kick off. When Bernardo Ihazintu came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Saprissa fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bernardo Ihazintu couldn't finish the play. Pedro Mikelar could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 58th minute of the match, but Fabio Rubio made a huge save. 58 minutes into the game, Tadeo Remicio was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Apolo Ticho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jacinto Panfilo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 90th minute of play. Celestino Xabat took the ball and in the 94 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jacinto Panfilo. Jacinto Panfilo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-2. Saprissa's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
