The supporters of Salto booed when RIVER PLATE was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gaudencio Toribio didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Paulino Clodio in the 10th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Uriel Prejun prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 11th minute, Gaudencio Toribio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Paulino Clodio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Uriel Prejun tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Uriel Prejun didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Gavino Javiar went, in the 19th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Paulino Clodio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Uriel Prejun tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 24 played minutes, Salto's Cristo Ladio shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Uriel Prejun came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Salto reached it. Paulino Clodio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Uriel Prejun having to interfere. Valentin Ishmael hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. Uriel Prejun stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gavino Javiar's shot from short distance in the 32nd minute. After a defensive mix-up in Salto's zone, Marcelo Orkatz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Diego Edorta came out of the goal and Marcelo Orkatz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Salto's Diego Edorta played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcelo Orkatz in the 38th minute of play. Paulino Clodio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 42nd minute, Gavino Javiar made a precise shot to the right of Uriel Prejun. RIVER PLATE's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. Gavino Javiar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Salto's Gavino Javiar in the 48th minute got a chance for a shot 48th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye RIVER PLATE's goalie prevented a goal. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gavino Javiar stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After having played for 53 minutes, Marcelo Orkatz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. RIVER PLATE's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marcelo Orkatz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Zacarias Garcia fell near the penalty area in the 56th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Salto's protests and gave Zacarias Garcia a yellow card for diving instead. In the 56th minute, one of Salto:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Salto. Marcelo Orkatz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Eustacio Galsino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Diego Edorta tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Marcelo Orkatz struck a weak shot in the 65th minute. Diego Edorta didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for RIVER PLATE. Gavino Javiar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Uriel Prejun having to interfere. 72 minutes into the match, RIVER PLATE's goal looked a bit too open when Gavino Javiar came free, but Uriel Prejun reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 74 played minutes Salto got a freekick which was hit by Gavino Javiar. Feliberto Gipuzkoa kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. 80 minutes into the match, Salto's Gavino Javiar sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Uriel Prejun narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 81 played minutes RIVER PLATE got a freekick which was hit by Gaudencio Toribio. Uriel Prejun made an important save on a dangerous shot by Paulino Clodio in the 82nd minute. Paulino Clodio's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 90thth minute, Uriel Prejun skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. 90 minutes into the game, Honorato Blasco was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. RIVER PLATE's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Salto the free kick. After 91 played minutes RIVER PLATE got a freekick which was hit by Honorato Blasco. After a defensive mix-up in RIVER PLATE's zone, Gavino Javiar stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Uriel Prejun came out of the goal and Gavino Javiar tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The Salto supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Salto would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
