Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Perú's Arnaldo Montae started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Gualterio Clodio was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 17th minute, Adolfo Xabel left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Perú fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-0. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Arnaldo Montae in the 20th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gualterio Clodio prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 22 minutes into the game, Pablo Silban was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. River Plate's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Perú the free kick. In the 22nd match minute, River Plate was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Pablo Silban to maneuver through the defense. The corner led Perú's Leonides Berbiz to fire away a dangerous shot which Gualterio Clodio despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After 25 minutes of play, Perú's Mauricio Polentzi made it 4-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gualterio Clodio was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 29th minute, Perú's Arnaldo Montae dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 5-0. Gualterio Clodio was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Adolfo Xabel showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 6-0 in the 42 minute of play. If Mauricio Polentzi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 6-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Cirilo Asur was the one to do the kick off. Mauricio Polentzi's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gualterio Clodio read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. Orlando Tabby sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 65 minutes, Arnaldo Montae made it 7-0 with a short kick to the right side. River Plate's Gualterio Clodio tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After some careless play in the River Plate defense, Adolfo Xabel kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gualterio Clodio. The River Plate fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gualterio Clodio should have stopped the shot. Gualterio Clodio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adolfo Xabel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 84 minutes, Arnaldo Montae managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Perú's supporters crossed their fingers, but Arnaldo Montae was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gualterio Clodio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adolfo Xabel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cirilo Asur could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 88th minute of the match, but Moises Cordarrel made a huge save. Arnaldo Montae might have been able to make a better finish in the 90th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gualterio Clodio. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Arnaldo Montae ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 93rd minute Perú were awarded a corner. Leonides Berbiz went to the cornerflag to take it. A well-hit corner resulted in Mauricio Polentzi heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. There was no doubt that Perú were the better team. Perú's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
