In the 37th minute Natalio Giraldo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Casimiro Olivar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Guaberto Gilen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dario Quexal having to interfere. If Clodoveo Cugat had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to River Plate getting a freekick after 48 minutes play. Adan Dominguez hit a great ball. Primitivo Sergi took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 49th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Dario Quexal. River Plate's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

After 57 minutes, Hermengildo Oliviero mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the River Plate and the Old Etonians F.C players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 57 played minutes River Plate got a freekick which was hit by Hermengildo Oliviero. In the 61st minute, Natalio Giraldo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The River Plate fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Clodoveo Cugat received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Leopoldo Endira's late challenge caught a River Plate's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dario Quexal made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2.
