Without hesitation aimed to the right of Casimiro Fertus, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Ramiro Estevez received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Casimiro Fertus tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Domingos Gaitan to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Domingos Gaitan managed to get in a good position for a shot. Billinghurst's supporters rose to their feet, but Domingos Gaitan was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Casimiro Fertus breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Romeo Colas's late challenge caught a Billinghurst's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The Billinghurst fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-2. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rolando Urdaspal during the 72nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Domingos Gaitan in the 75th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Casimiro Fertus prevented the ball from getting in the gole.
