Owe Simmelkiær took the ball and in the 20 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Mateo Quilino. Mateo Quilino dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. 23 minutes into the game, Owe Simmelkiær cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-4. Mateo Quilino was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Mateo Quilino came out of the goal in the 32nd minute to try and stop a shot by Club Atletico Peñarol's Owe Simmelkiær. But to his dismay, Owe Simmelkiær quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-5. Aaron Kepa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Mateo Quilino tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 39 minutes into the match, Owe Simmelkiær notched a goal, 0-6, to the right of Athens FC's Mateo Quilino. Mateo Quilino was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Silvio Corderall hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. 45 minutes into the match, Club Atletico Peñarol's goalkeeper Pascual Gaspard had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Baltasar Ritchie. If Owe Simmelkiær had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half Club Atletico Peñarol were leading 0-6. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Faustino Cresitobalo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. With a little luck, Athens FC's Mateo Quilino got control of the ball when Owe Simmelkiær tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 89thth minute of the game Jose Frances who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Athens FC's Mateo Quilino was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball.
