The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Jairo Estevez charged in rather forcefully in the 3rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. In the 4th match minute, Athens FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jairo Estevez to maneuver through the defense. 16 minutes into the match, Athens FC's Faustino Cresitobalo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Casimiro Kimetz narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Leandro Benvide sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience thought a goal was coming when Leandro Benvide got free with Mateo Quilino in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in Athens FC's zone, Angel Iago stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mateo Quilino came out of the goal and Angel Iago tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. CA MATIENZO's Casimiro Kimetz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Baltasar Ritchie in the 41st minute of play. In the 43rd minute Faustino Cresitobalo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Casimiro Kimetz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Angel Iago made a kick off. Mateo Quilino took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Angel Iago, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Elpidio Walme charged in rather forcefully in the 55th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Leandro Benvide fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mateo Quilino having to interfere. 65 minutes into the match, Athens FC's goal looked a bit too open when Leandro Benvide came free, but Mateo Quilino reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Athens FC's Mateo Quilino played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Angel Iago in the 69th minute of play. Elpidio Walme hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. In the 72ndth minute of the game Leandro Benvide who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Athens FC's Mateo Quilino was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 73rd minute CA MATIENZO were awarded a corner. Filiberto Teodor went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Filiberto Teodor got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Mateo Quilino quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. 75 minutes into the match, Athens FC's goal looked a bit too open when Angel Iago came free, but Mateo Quilino reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Angel Iago received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Mateo Quilino tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 81st match minute, Athens FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Natalio Gustau to maneuver through the defense. Casimiro Kimetz made a fantastic save in the 85th minute, when Baltasar Ritchie sent off a good shot on target. Mateo Quilino took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Angel Iago, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 91st match minute, Athens FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edgardo Aureo to maneuver through the defense. If Angel Iago had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Angel Iago in the 94th minute of play forced Athens FC's goalkeeper Mateo Quilino to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 97th minute, Leandro Benvide left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The CA MATIENZO fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
