Narciso Millrick made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ermegildo Bertol in the 4th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nicolas Pirro in the 7th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Faustino Emenon saved Lonquimay from getting behind. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nicanor Quirze got free with Faustino Emenon in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 12th minute the ball was on its way in behind River Plate's goalkeeper Narciso Millrick, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 18 minutes in the game, Nicolas Pirro fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Faustino Emenon having to interfere. Uriel Estavan recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 23rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 26 minutes, Uriel Estavan managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. River Plate's supporters crossed their fingers, but Uriel Estavan was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nicanor Quirze got free with Faustino Emenon in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 43 minutes into the game, Ruperto Benet was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. River Plate's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Lonquimay the free kick. The supporters of Lonquimay booed when River Plate was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ruperto Benet didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Nicanor Quirze came up free with the goalie in the 47th minute, the River Plate fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nicanor Quirze couldn't finish the play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The wind increased when Alfonso Bikendi made the kick off in the second half. After 52 minutes of play River Plate's Ruperto Benet was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Ruperto Benet hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. After 54 played minutes, Lonquimay's Severo Lauro shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Narciso Millrick came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Lonquimay reached it. In the 62nd minute, Ermegildo Bertol got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Alfonso Bikendi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Narciso Millrick having to interfere. Uriel Estavan kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. In a very dangerous position, a player in River Plate fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 70th minute. Penalty! When the match had been going on for 72 minutes, Lonquimay's Severo Lauro got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Narciso Millrick. Ermegildo Bertol fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Narciso Millrick having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nicanor Quirze in the 77th minute of play forced Lonquimay's goalkeeper Faustino Emenon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 78th minute, Nicanor Quirze got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 86th match minute, Lonquimay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Epifanio Javiero to maneuver through the defense. When Epifanio Javiero came up free with the goalie in the 90th minute, the Lonquimay fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Epifanio Javiero couldn't finish the play. 93 minutes into the match, River Plate's goalkeeper Narciso Millrick had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Epifanio Javiero. Narciso Millrick was a little too slow when Alfonso Bikendi got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 97th minute. The score was now 0-2. The Lonquimay players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
