Thanks to some nice moves Fabio Frisco could shoot a difficult shot in the 9th minute, which Cirilo Tabby however easily saved by the left post. With a little luck, Independiente's Cirilo Tabby got control of the ball when Fabio Frisco tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Ceferino Larpe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fabio Frisco in the 23rd minute of play forced Independiente's goalkeeper Cirilo Tabby to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. River Plate's Cayetano Eneto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ceferino Larpe in the 26th minute of play. After some careless play in the River Plate defense, Ceferino Larpe kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Cayetano Eneto. The River Plate fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Cayetano Eneto should have stopped the shot. Edgard Rutenio hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. Fabio Frisco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Cirilo Tabby tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Blas Eder hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. The supporters of River Plate booed when Independiente was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rosendo Quinton didn't get a good kick on the ball. Osvaldo Ekhi charged in rather forcefully in the 60th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. After a defensive mix-up in River Plate's zone, Ceferino Larpe stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cayetano Eneto came out of the goal and Ceferino Larpe tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 72nd match minute, River Plate was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jose Fonso to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Independiente's Atilano Belo got a free kick in the 73rd minute. 76 minutes into the match, Independiente's goal looked a bit too open when Fabio Frisco came free, but Cirilo Tabby reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Fabio Frisco's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cirilo Tabby was relentless in the 78th minute of the game. Cirilo Tabby showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fabio Frisco in the 82nd minute of the match.
