When the match clock showed 5 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Gervasio Venerando sped through Douglas Haig's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Carolo Cayo. Alberto Chinto hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. If Lino Markel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Carolo Cayo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gervasio Venerando in the 16th minute of the match. In the 17th minute, Anastasio Osorio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Igor Toli took the ball and in the 21 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Des Sugden. Des Sugden dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. After having played for 25 minutes, Gervasio Venerando managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Club Atlético River Plate's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gervasio Venerando was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to Douglas Haig getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Anastasio Osorio hit a great ball. Lino Markel recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 36th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Gervasio Venerando had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 41st match minute, Douglas Haig was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Anastasio Osorio to maneuver through the defense. Saul Cordarrell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Carolo Cayo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Epifanio Cambranes in the 52nd minute of play forced Douglas Haig's goalkeeper Carolo Cayo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gervasio Venerando sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 54th match minute, Douglas Haig was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alberto Chinto to maneuver through the defense. If Lino Markel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Carolo Cayo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gervasio Venerando, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 59th minute, Lino Markel managed to get in a good position for a shot. Club Atlético River Plate's supporters rose to their feet, but Lino Markel was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Carolo Cayo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Carolo Cayo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Lino Markel's shot from short distance in the 62nd minute. When Club Atlético River Plate's Gervasio Venerando in the 64th minute got a chance for a shot 64th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Douglas Haig's goalie prevented a goal. After 67 minutes, Eugenio Corderall mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Douglas Haig and the Club Atlético River Plate players grew even worse after the yellow card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Douglas Haig fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 67th minute. Penalty! Lino Markel's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Carolo Cayo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 75th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Gervasio Venerando in the 77th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Carolo Cayo prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Gervasio Venerando came up free with the goalie in the 82nd minute, the Club Atlético River Plate fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gervasio Venerando couldn't finish the play. Carolo Cayo came out of the goal in the 84th minute to try and stop a shot by Club Atlético River Plate's Saul Cordarrell. But to his dismay, Saul Cordarrell quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-1. A collision led to Club Atlético River Plate getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Saul Cordarrell hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gervasio Venerando in the 89th minute of play forced Douglas Haig's goalkeeper Carolo Cayo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Club Atlético River Plate fully deserved thier win.
