In the 14th minute, Rene Ayala left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Boca Juniors fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. Roman Etxahun showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rene Ayala, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. In the 20th minute, Epifanio Dantel left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Caraguatay. The referee gave Boca Juniors a penalty, 35 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Rene Ayala, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Caraguatay's Roman Etxahun. 1-5. Rene Ayala fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Roman Etxahun having to interfere. The supporters of Boca Juniors booed when Caraguatay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Erubiel Hodei didn't get a good kick on the ball. Disappointed in the 1-5 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Epifanio Dantel to make the kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Rene Ayala in the 52nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Roman Etxahun prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Teodoro Maxin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cesar Urti in the 57th minute of play. After 57 played minutes Boca Juniors got a freekick which was hit by Isaias Hori. 61 minutes into the match, Caraguatay's goalkeeper Roman Etxahun had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Epifanio Dantel. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Isaias Hori during the 70th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 70th minute, Isaias Hori hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Teodoro Maxin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cesar Urti in the 72nd minute of play. Boca Juniors's Lucas Pueblo suffered a concussion after 91 minutes and had to leave the field. Cesar Urti charged in rather forcefully in the 91st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cesar Urti the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play.
