Gregorio Artaldo came out of the goal in the 16th minute to try and stop a shot by San Lorenzo de Almagro's Ulises Abancens. But to his dismay, Ulises Abancens quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. San Lorenzo de Almagro's Carolo Azeari got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Ulises Abancens's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gregorio Artaldo was relentless in the 22nd minute of the game. Mauro Eusko took the ball and in the 23 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Amadeo Gorri. Amadeo Gorri dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. In the 27thth minute of the game Ulises Abancens who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Newell´s Old Boys's Gregorio Artaldo was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Godfredo Bernebe's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Amadeo Gorri read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 31st minute of play. When Godfredo Bernebe came up free with the goalie in the 33rd minute, the Newell´s Old Boys fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Godfredo Bernebe couldn't finish the play. Mauro Eusko might have been able to make a better finish in the 35th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Amadeo Gorri. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mauro Eusko ran back to his position shaking his head. With a little luck, San Lorenzo de Almagro's Amadeo Gorri got control of the ball when Mauro Eusko tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 41st minute the ball was on its way in behind San Lorenzo de Almagro's goalkeeper Amadeo Gorri, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Newell´s Old Boys's zone, Carolo Azeari stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gregorio Artaldo came out of the goal and Carolo Azeari tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ulises Abancens received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Gregorio Artaldo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The wind increased when Godfredo Bernebe made the kick off in the second half. If Ulises Abancens had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A hard shot by Gaudencio Castulo from long distance, 55 minutes into the match, got Gregorio Artaldo's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Ulises Abancens sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 63 minutes into the match, San Lorenzo de Almagro's goal looked a bit too open when Mauro Eusko came free, but Amadeo Gorri reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mauro Eusko in the 69th minute of play forced San Lorenzo de Almagro's goalkeeper Amadeo Gorri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Justo Jeraldo hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Candido Mannie during the 75th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Carolo Azeari might have been able to make a better finish in the 95th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gregorio Artaldo. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Carolo Azeari ran back to his position shaking his head. Newell´s Old Boys were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of San Lorenzo de Almagro for a fine match.
