Genaro Xacintu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Abreu having to interfere. When the match had been going on for 14 minutes, Gallinas's Mauricio Policarpio got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Benito Abreu. Mauricio Policarpio might have been able to make a better finish in the 37th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Benito Abreu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mauricio Policarpio ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 39th minute, Genaro Xacintu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 40 minutes of play, Gallinas's Anier Noe made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Benito Abreu was left in no man's land by his defense there! If Victorino Tulio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Mauricio Policarpio was the one to do the kick off. When Genaro Xacintu came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Gallinas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Genaro Xacintu couldn't finish the play. Benito Abreu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mauricio Policarpio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Raul Santiago came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the Gallinas fans jumped to their feet. Gallinas's Victorino Tulio got a good chance for a goal in the 82nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Honorio Guillelme had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
