Haroldo Diagur kicked well hit freekick during the 3rd minute of the match. In the 7th minute, Atilano Karmel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ramiro Dominix made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Felix Bermudo in the 10th minute of play. In the 11th match minute, Deportivo Villa Castells was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Francisco Esiquio to maneuver through the defense. When Francisco Esiquio fell near the penalty area in the 13th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Deportivo Villa Castells's protests and gave Francisco Esiquio a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Deportivo Villa Castells's Francisco Esiquio got a free kick in the 14th minute. Ramiro Dominix made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Felix Bermudo in the 21st minute of play. Ramiro Dominix took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristo Belasko, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Gimnasia Esgrima La Plata booed when Deportivo Villa Castells was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Thiago Traverso didn't get a good kick on the ball. 29 minutes into the game, Gimnasia Esgrima La Plata's Cristo Belasko nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ramiro Dominix made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Deportivo Villa Castells's Haroldo Diagur got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 37th minute, Toni Kroos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Atilano Karmel charged in rather forcefully in the 42nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Atilano Karmel the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Deportivo Villa Castells getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Atilano Karmel hit a great ball. After recieving a nice pass, Gimnasia Esgrima La Plata's Hernan Eate tried to score from far away in the 43rd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. After the first half Gimnasia Esgrima La Plata were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 56th minute Cristo Belasko shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ramiro Dominix saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sebastian Ignatius made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Keenan Winter in the 62nd minute of play. Gimnasia Esgrima La Plata's Sebastian Ignatius played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roberto Abeijon in the 64th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Santiago Manuelo in the 73rd minute of play forced Deportivo Villa Castells's goalkeeper Ramiro Dominix to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Braulio Rocendo fell near the penalty area in the 86th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Gimnasia Esgrima La Plata's protests and gave Braulio Rocendo a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Gimnasia Esgrima La Plata getting a freekick after 86 minutes play. Braulio Rocendo hit a great ball. Cristobal Mirande might have been able to make a better finish in the 92nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ramiro Dominix. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cristobal Mirande ran back to his position shaking his head. Haroldo Diagur came free in the 96th minute and tried to tip the ball over Sebastian Ignatius, but to the joy of Gimnasia Esgrima La Plata's supporters the ball went over.
