The supporters of Gonnet booed when River was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lucio Reno didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 10 played minutes, Gonnet's Arnoldo Ezkerra shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Tadeo Esiquio came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Gonnet reached it. Devlet Kaplan blasted a shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Herminio Txindoki having to make a save. Devlet Kaplan might have been able to make a better finish in the 18th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Herminio Txindoki. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Devlet Kaplan ran back to his position shaking his head. Devlet Kaplan struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Herminio Txindoki didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for River. Devlet Kaplan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 19th minute. Herminio Txindoki tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 38 minutes, Devlet Kaplan managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. River's supporters crossed their fingers, but Devlet Kaplan was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Andres Ricart kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. 42 minutes into the game, Devlet Kaplan recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Herminio Txindoki. Devlet Kaplan showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. Eusebio Amor fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Herminio Txindoki having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Freddy Pirro was the one to do the kick off. The River fans' excitement grew in the 82nd match minute when River's Devlet Kaplan looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 7-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 88th minute Elvio Giro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Herminio Txindoki saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Eusebio Amor recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 94th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jonatan Emmanuel got free with Tadeo Esiquio in the 97th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. River had played much better football throughout.
