Godfredo Criston was left in no man's land by his defense there! When Gaston Rosalio came up free with the goalie in the 7th minute, the CA Defensores Nacionales fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gaston Rosalio couldn't finish the play. When CA Defensores Nacionales's Fabricio Pacorro in the 11th minute got a chance for a shot 11th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. After 31 played minutes Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba got a freekick which was hit by Jairo Gorosti. After having played for 31 minutes, Fabricio Pacorro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CA Defensores Nacionales's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fabricio Pacorro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Rolando Patxi blasted a shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Godfredo Criston having to make a save. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jairo Gorosti during the 34th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 34 played minutes Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba got a freekick which was hit by Jairo Gorosti. After some fancy dribbling in the 36th minute, Isaias Herensuge managed to get in a good position for a shot. CA Defensores Nacionales's supporters rose to their feet, but Isaias Herensuge was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Godfredo Criston breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ariel Gau was the one to do the kick off. Rolando Patxi's late challenge caught a Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Rolando Patxi helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba booed when CA Defensores Nacionales was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 50 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rolando Patxi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rolando Patxi could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 55th minute of the match, but Godfredo Criston made a huge save. Gaston Rosalio took the ball and in the 57 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Godfredo Criston. Godfredo Criston dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. 63 minutes into the match, Tiburcio Iraunkor had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jacinto Urre. CA Defensores Nacionales's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tiburcio Iraunkor was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-2. CA Defensores Nacionales's Jacinto Urre played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ariel Gau in the 72nd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ariel Gau in the 74th minute of play forced CA Defensores Nacionales's goalkeeper Jacinto Urre to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba's Godfredo Criston got control of the ball when Gaston Rosalio tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba's zone, Fabricio Pacorro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Godfredo Criston came out of the goal and Fabricio Pacorro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 88th minute, Gaston Rosalio fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. In the 92nd minute, Marco Naldo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fabricio Pacorro in the 95th minute of play forced Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba's goalkeeper Godfredo Criston to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
