He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. In the 24th minute, Tomás Saturnin ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Celso Tancredo was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. In the 31st minute, Tomás Saturnin made a precise shot to the right of Celso Tancredo. Republic of Ireland's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. Tomás Saturnin scored 0-3 in the 35th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Celso Tancredo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 41 minutes into the game, Justino Matxin cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-4. Celso Tancredo was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 0-5 became the score in the 48th minute when Tomás Saturnin elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Disappointed in the 0-5 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tomás Saturnin stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Celso Tancredo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tomás Saturnin's shot from short distance in the 61st minute. Melquiades Rivas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hilario Gasteiz having to interfere. In the 99th play minute Justino Matxin came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Celso Tancredo. 0-6.
