The supporters of Santamarina booed when Vélez Sarsfield was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Anier Goito didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Santamarina getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Régis Salgado hit a great ball. 27 minutes into the match, Marcos Restu notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Santamarina's Juan Flores. Juan Flores was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Nereo Montay struck a weak shot in the 31st minute. Guillermo Checa didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Santamarina. After a defensive mix-up in Vélez Sarsfield's zone, Leon Isadore stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Guillermo Checa came out of the goal and Leon Isadore tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Isidoro Hitzeder recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 36th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Marcos Restu was the one to do the kick off. Americo Txindoki took the ball and in the 58 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Juan Flores. Juan Flores dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. Marcos Restu struck a weak shot in the 65th minute. Juan Flores didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vélez Sarsfield. Leon Isadore sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Isidoro Hitzeder might have been able to make a better finish in the 75th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Guillermo Checa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Isidoro Hitzeder ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 77th minute, Marco Garcia got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Leon Isadore came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Santamarina fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Leon Isadore couldn't finish the play. After having played for 83 minutes, Marco Garcia managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Santamarina's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marco Garcia was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 85 minutes into the match, Leon Isadore had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Guillermo Checa. Vélez Sarsfield's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Leon Isadore was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-2. 90 minutes into the match, Nereo Montay notched a goal, 4-2, to the right of Vélez Sarsfield's Guillermo Checa. Guillermo Checa was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. With a little luck, Santamarina's Juan Flores got control of the ball when Americo Txindoki tried to sneak it across the goal line. 97 minutes into the match, Santamarina's goal looked a bit too open when Marcos Restu came free, but Juan Flores reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Santamarina walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
