The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Fabricio Reyes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulino Vellito, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 8 minutes into the match, River Plate's goal looked a bit too open when Silverio Bordat came free, but Fabricio Reyes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Fabricio Reyes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Isaac Eliu, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. Fabricio Reyes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Severino Ospin in the 13th minute of play. 17 minutes into the match, River Plate's Guido Aztore sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Timoteo Ponc narrowly saved just below the crossbar. River Plate's Ermegildo Goyo managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Faustino Chale in the 19 minute of the game. Isaac Eliu hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. If Siro Chale had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With his leg Timoteo Ponc managed to avoid a goal in the 36thth minute, when River Plate's Ermegildo Goyo fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Fabricio Reyes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Silverio Bordat, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After the first half Lileo AFC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Siro Chale to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Atilano Bingen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. River Plate's Fabricio Reyes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Silverio Bordat in the 53rd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Lileo AFC's Severino Ospin got a free kick in the 63rd minute. After 65 minutes, Paulino Vellito mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Lileo AFC and the River Plate players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of River Plate booed when Lileo AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulino Vellito didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 69th minute of the match Ulises Vistruario shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Fabricio Reyes showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Thanks to some nice moves Severino Ospin could shoot a difficult shot in the 81st minute, which Fabricio Reyes however easily saved by the left post. When Guido Aztore fell near the penalty area in the 85th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored River Plate's protests and gave Guido Aztore a yellow card for diving instead. After a defensive mix-up in Lileo AFC's zone, Siro Chale stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Timoteo Ponc came out of the goal and Siro Chale tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ermegildo Goyo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Timoteo Ponc having to interfere. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see River Plate lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
