Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Alvaro Barto came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the River Plate fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alvaro Barto couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, Buenos Aires's Raul Romano got a free kick in the 27th minute. 0-1 became the score in the 29th minute when Alvaro Barto elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. If Alvaro Barto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Alfonso Venceslas struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Feliciano Lekubegi didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for River Plate. After 39 played minutes, River Plate's Benicio Darien shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Feliciano Lekubegi came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in River Plate reached it. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched River Plate eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
