The audience was convinced that Emanuel Santos's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Leonardo Txurio was relentless in the 7th minute of the game. The supporters of Peñarol de La Mosca AC booed when Athena was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Celso Mogel didn't get a good kick on the ball. Anacleto Nataniel took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 44th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Baldomero Elizardo. Athena's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Emanuel Santos to make the kick off. Lorenzo Gonsalvo's late challenge caught a Athena's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Lorenzo Gonsalvo helped the player get up and apologised. Lorenzo Gonsalvo hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. Athena's Cesar Fraco got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Emanuel Santos in the 69th minute of play forced Peñarol de La Mosca AC's goalkeeper Leonardo Txurio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Edgardo Jordy had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Cesar Soter came up free with the goalie in the 74th minute, the Athena fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cesar Soter couldn't finish the play. After 75 minutes of play, Athena's Emanuel Santos made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Leonardo Txurio was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 79th minute Damian Matai shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Baldomero Elizardo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 81st match minute, Peñarol de La Mosca AC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Roman Lope to maneuver through the defense. Nicolas Senio struck a weak shot in the 82nd minute. Leonardo Txurio didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Athena. Baldomero Elizardo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rodrigo Silbestre in the 90th minute of the match. Cesar Soter sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. There was no doubt that Athena were the better team. Athena's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
