The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Elpidio Cordareo during the 4th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Newells Old Boys's Elpidio Cordareo got a free kick in the 4th minute. Nicolas Pasqual's late challenge caught a Club de Barrio's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nicolas Pasqual helped the player get up and apologised. After 7 played minutes Newells Old Boys got a freekick which was hit by Nicolas Pasqual. After some fancy dribbling in the 9th minute, Nestor Abastas managed to get in a good position for a shot. Club de Barrio's supporters rose to their feet, but Nestor Abastas was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marciano Aztore breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to Newells Old Boys getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Elpidio Cordareo hit a great ball. In the 17th minute Nestor Abastas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marciano Aztore saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Nestor Abastas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nemesio Mede fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ladislao Milian having to interfere. If Nestor Abastas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nemesio Mede came free with the goalkeeper in the 35th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Ladislao Milian could save by the left post. When the match had been going on for 38 minutes, Newells Old Boys's Hermengildo Gergori got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Ladislao Milian. After having played for 42 minutes, Nestor Abastas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Club de Barrio's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nestor Abastas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 44 minutes of play, Newells Old Boys's Nemesio Mede made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ladislao Milian was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 47th minute, Americo Criston hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Nestor Abastas stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nemesio Mede in the 55th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ladislao Milian saved Club de Barrio from getting behind. A collision led to Club de Barrio getting a freekick after 73 minutes play. Americo Criston hit a great ball. In the game's 74th minute Newells Old Boys's Hermengildo Gergori took a hard shot from long distance, a kick which went into the net just to the right of Ladislao Milian and thus the score was 3-0. In the 84th minute, Nemesio Mede got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Blas Sanchez fell near the penalty area in the 87th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Club de Barrio's protests and gave Blas Sanchez a yellow card for diving instead. Blas Sanchez hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. Hermengildo Gergori recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ladislao Milian didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Nemesio Mede went, in the 96th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-0 was the resulting score. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Newells Old Boys fully deserved thier win.
