Leon Fernandez's late challenge caught a Salto 's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. An unexpectedly hard shot by Omar Pasqual in the 11th minute of play forced Salto 's goalkeeper Eriberto Bastia to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Arnulfo Harkaitz came up free with the goalie in the 14th minute, the Salto fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Arnulfo Harkaitz couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Manguaré getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Leon Fernandez hit a great ball. In the 16th minute, Uriel Bela made a precise shot to the right of Domingo Telo. Manguaré's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Salto 's Eriberto Bastia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Omar Pasqual in the 25th minute of play. In the 27th minute of the match Francisco Hanot sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Eriberto Bastia skillfully saved the ball. Uriel Bela fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Domingo Telo having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Salto 's zone, Teofilo Tximitx stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eriberto Bastia came out of the goal and Teofilo Tximitx tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Manguaré booed when Salto was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Americo Checa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Domingo Telo came out of the goal in the 42nd minute to try and stop a shot by Salto 's Uriel Bela. But to his dismay, Uriel Bela quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Teofilo Tximitx could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 46th minute of the match, but Eriberto Bastia made a huge save. The Manguaré players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Salto were winning 0-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Arnulfo Harkaitz to make the kick off. Eriberto Bastia didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Omar Pasqual went, in the 58th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. Salto 's Eriberto Bastia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Omar Pasqual in the 64th minute of play. Arnulfo Harkaitz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Salto 's Eriberto Bastia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Omar Pasqual in the 70th minute of play. In the 71st minute the ball was on its way in behind Salto 's goalkeeper Eriberto Bastia, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Teofilo Tximitx had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Domingo Telo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arnulfo Harkaitz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Apolo Iban sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Omar Pasqual fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eriberto Bastia having to interfere. The Salto supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Salto would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
